Sprague Street over MBTA, CSX & Service Road

Boston, MA

Located adjacent to MBTA's Readville Commuter Station, the Sprague Street Bridge carries Sprague Street over the MBTA and CSX rail lines, as well as a service road, in the Hyde Park section of the City of Boston. The four-span, 450-foot-long steel structure replaces a structurally deficient two-span steel thru truss.

Portions of the existing granite block abutments were modified to support the new bridge, and three new distinctive concrete piers were constructed. In addition to the distinctive piers, several aesthetically pleasing features were incorporated into the design of this bridge, including granite block form liners, period lighting and colored protective screening.
