hqOne of the Region's Leading Civil and Enviromental Engineering Consultants

GRA was established in March 1970 in Providence, RI, relocating to the City

of Pawtucket in 1984.  In the decades since the firm’s founding, the company has become one of the leading civil and environmental engineering consulting firms in southern New England, taking on a wide range of civil engineering challenges with professionalism, expertise and a noteworthy commitment to exceeding expectations.  GRA provides planning, design and construction-related services over a wide range of public infrastructure and private development projects.

From its modest beginnings, the firm has grown to include a diverse staff of registered professional engineers, project engineers, construction managers, engineering technicians and support personnel.  Our team is equipped to address challenges ranging from large transportation planning and design projects, including highway, bridge and traffic engineering assignments, to environmental impact studies, site development, environmental site assessment and remediation, and regulatory compliance for projects both large and small.

In the government sector, the firm’s clients include the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC), the University of Rhode Island (URI), the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM), the Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC), the Warwick Sewer Authority (WSA) and many municipalities throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.  Our private client list is equally diverse, including architects and owners of both commercial and residential projects.

Participation of Principals

One of the hallmarks of our firm's management culture is simply this: On every project, large or small, a principal of our firm will be directly and intimately involved in the prosecution of the engineering work.  This approach is a natural outgrowth for a small firm wherein the principals – just two in 1970 – were the ones who actually performed the work.  As we have grown over the years, the culture of "principal involvement" has been carried forward and is one of the key reasons behind many of our excellent client relationships.
